Reverse Osmosis

Reverse Osmosis is very similar to the process of membrane filtration.  However, there are very distinct differences that separate the two as well.  In Reverse Osmosis (commonly referred to as RO) relies on a diffusive mechanism, so that the separation efficiency  depends on the solute concentration, pressure and water flex rate.    Whereas in filtration there is a removal mechanism for straining to rid of particles regardless of the parameters of the pressure or concentration, like in the RO process.

Reverse Osmosis occurs when using pressure to force a solution through a membrane, retaining the solute on one side, while the purified solvent passes through on the other side.

Micro Filtration Membranes

Micro Filtration F-Series MembranesThe Micro Filtration F-Series sanitary spiral membranes (also referred to as elements) are responsible for fat removal, and fractionalization of casein from whey proteins.  The F-series elements offer a high resistance to fouling.  The PVDF (Polyvinylidene Fluroide) membrane provides excellent chemical and temperature resistance under a variety of process and sanitizing conditions.

The Micro Filtration Membranes have many high-quality selling points, for example, it has an increased resistance to oxidizing agents.  This element, which is also designed according to 3A, FDA, & UDSA standards, has enhanced durability and extended life.  It is available in both standard diameter and custom sized configurations in order to reach the maximum performance and optimal cleaning level.

Ultra-Filtration Units

ClearBRINE Ultra-Filtration (UF) Unit Koss Industrial, Inc.’s ClearBRINE Ultra-Filtration (UF) Units are equipped with a modified, continuous filtration system.  Brine runs through a rotary drum strainer and then flows through membranes, which filters particles from the brine.  A programmable logic controller (PLC) runs the process, and the pressure is automatically adjusted in the membranes based upon the required flow rate.  The system returns unfiltered brine to the balance tank and continues until it reaches the end of the run time.  Then it disposes of a small amount of concentrated uncleaned brine.

Koss Industrial, Inc.  manufactures the ultra-filtration units to USDA and WDA sanitary standards.  These UF Units come in a variety of sizes and allow for an easy visual check to see if the membrane units are still in proper working order.
