Ball Valve
A ball valve is a valve with a spherical disc, which is the part of the valve that controls the flow through it. The sphere has a port through the middle, so that when the port is in line with both ends of the valve, flow will occur through it. When the valve is closed the port is blocked, not allowing the flow through. A ball valve is considered to be in the same “family” as the butterfly valve and plug valve, which is referred to as the “quarter turn valves” family.
Koss Industrial offers a wide variety of these valves including the brands TRIAC and Jamflow.
Steam Ball Valves
Schubert & Salzer has the 7010 shut off valve that is also in the steam capable. These steam ball valves are not only ideal for steam, but they are ideal for water, gases, and other aggressive media. Actuators are available in a hardened chrome plated alloy, stainless steel and polymer. End connections include NPT, ANSI flanges, socket weld, butt weld, tri-clamp, tube ends, etc. Sizes ¼” through 3”.
Valves in Everyday Use
Although we might not take the time to think about it, valves play a crucial part in our everyday lives. Humans literally couldn’t do without valves in their hearts pumping blood through the body’s many arteries. Some of the most basic daily activities, beginning with turning on the water for a hot shower in the morning, depend on man-made valves to function properly.
Ball valves work in accordance with a handle to block or restrict the flow of liquids and gases. They help to regulate the flow of fuel to internal combustion engines, and they play a critical part in our country’s chemical, oil and pharmaceutical industries as well. A ball valve can withstand tremendous amounts of pressure, which makes it useful in pipelines.
