High-Quality Shut Off Valves

No matter what it is containing, a shut off valve is one of the most important elements of a piece of heavy machinery. As you can probably ascertain from its name, the valve serves to cease the flow of some substance through the apparatus. Because it serves such an importance purpose, it is important to invest in a quality part.

Stainless steel is always a good bet when it comes to machinery, and this is the case with a shut off valve too. You want to look for a model that has a manufacturer warranty and guarantee that backs up the performance of the product. While the part may be relatively small, the role that it plays in the operation of the machine is huge.

Butterfly Valve

The role of a butterfly valve is to regulate the flow in which the disc takes the form of the disk.  This process is similar to the process of the ball valve.  The disc is positioned in the center of the pipe, and has a rod passing through, which is connected to an actuator on the outside of the valve.  Rotating the actuator turns the disc either parallel of perpendicular to the flow.  The disc is always present within the flow, which means a pressure drop is then induced in the flow, no matter what the valve position is.   This is the major difference from the ball valve.

Ball Valve

A ball valve is a valve with a spherical disc, which is the part of the valve that controls the flow through it.  The sphere has a port through the middle, so that when the port is in line with both ends of the valve, flow will occur through it.  When the valve is closed the port is blocked, not allowing the flow through.  A ball valve is considered to be in the same “family” as the butterfly valve and plug valve, which is referred to as the “quarter turn valves” family.

Koss Industrial offers a wide variety of these valves including the brands TRIAC and Jamflow.
