Regulating & maintaining temperature is a breeze with Hot Water Sets!

  • Precise Temperature Control
  • Even Heat Distribution (eliminates hot spots;  offers quality control/ease of cleaning)
  • Lower Pressure (doesn’t require special jacketing)
  • A Safer Environment (as opposed to having high pressure steam runs throughout the plant)

Koss Industrial’s hot water sets are designed & fabricated to USDA & WDA Sanitary Standards and are constructed from durable stainless. Heat Exchanger has 3A symbol. We design & fabricate hot water sets to meet the customer’s unique needs.

Available Options include: various material finishes, controls for hot water set, skid/wall mounting, different styles of expansion tanks, insulation, heat exchangers (ASME or U-Tube; 8, 10, 12 in. U-Tube Heat Exchangers operating above 15 psig mawp will be ASME stamped)

  • Cross Flow
  • Hot Water Set
  • Plate
  • Scraped Surface
  • Double Tube
  • Triple Tube
  • U-Tube (4-12″) *150psi standard

Our ASME certified 304 & 316L U-Tube Heat Exchangers provide superior corrosion resistance over carbon steel. Also, the U-Tubes’ construction results in less weld fatigue, giving it a longer lifespan than straight shell & tube models.

What is a Heat Exchanger?

Simply put, a heat exchanger is a device that facilitates the transfer of heat from one medium to another in an efficient way. Heat exchangers can be used to move heat between either devices that are touching or those that aren’t even in the same room. This technology is utilized in everything from heating and refrigeration to petroleum refinement and sewage treatment. If you’re having trouble grasping the concept, the radiator in your car is a good example of a heat exchanger.

There are several different types of heat exchangers, with shell and tube being one of the most common. Comprised of a series of tubes, these heat exchangers contain multiple fluids which are used to transfer heat and regulate temperatures. Another one of the more common designs is the plate heat exchanger. These units are made of several plates that are connected together with a small space left in-between each one. Thanks to advancements in technology, these more simplistic heat exchangers are now viable options for HVAC, refrigeration and other common uses.

A heat exchanger is a basic piece of equipment that facilitates heat transfer from one source to another. Heat exchangers come in a variety of shapes and forms, being utilized for everything from refrigeration and sewage treatment to chemical and power plants. Some of the most basic types of heat exchangers are shell and tube, plate, and fluid.

As you can imagine, finding the proper heat exchanger for your particular purpose can be challenging. To that end, finding a heat exchanger manufacturer that can customize components for your specific equipment is often the best route. While this may not be feasible for small companies, this methodology can save larger corporations a significant amount of time and numerous headaches.

Titanium Plate Heat Exchangers are ideal for the heating or cool of corrosive products, such as salt brine or acids.  Alfa Laval’s FrontLine and BaseLine (as pictured) Plate Heat Exchangers, as well as industrial units (with painted frames) are an example of these titanium plate heat exchangers.

As an Authorized Distributor of Alfa Laval products, Koss Industrial can correctly size a plate heat exchanger to you requirements.

Shell and Tube Heat Exchangers

HXU2.5-6X60 Koss Shell and Tube Heat ExchangerThere are many types of heat exchangers out there, and the most common heat exchanger for high-pressure applications is the shell and tube heat exchanger.  It’s name pretty much give this heat exchanger away, it consists of a shell, which is the pressure vessel, and contains a bundle of tubes inside the shell.  Fluid A runs through the tubes, while Fluid B flows over the tubes (through the shell) and then the heat is transferred between the two fluids.

Koss Industrial, Inc. engineers and manufactures shell and tube heat exchangers, also know as u-tube heat exchangers.  Pictured here is Koss’ version of a shell and tube heat exchanger, a u-tube heat exchanger model number HXU2.5-6X60.

Brazed Plate Heat Exchangers

Alfa Laval Brazed Heat ExchangersA brazed plate heat exchanger is basically your “smaller” versions of the plate heat exchanger.  One of the main separating factors of plate heat exchangers is that the “larger” ones are separate by gaskets, whereas the “smaller” ones consist of brazed seals at the edges of the plates and the contact points of the plate are also brazed.

There are many advantages to the brazed plate heat exchangers, for example, the heat transfer efficiency makes the unit compact which is easily installed in locations where space is limited.  Also, seeing as the design of the this type of plate heat exchangers does not consist of gaskets, it is suitable for applications where the temperature and/or pressure rating is high.
