Cheese Processing Equipment
Koss Industrial, Inc. offers a wide variety of cheese processing equipment, both new and reconditioned. Some examples of Koss’ cheese processing equipment are the lab cookers, hot water sets, ClearBrine® Ultra Filtration units, and CIP Systems are only the beginning of what Koss’ has to offer.
Shell and Tube Heat Exchangers
There are many types of heat exchangers out there, and the most common heat exchanger for high-pressure applications is the shell and tube heat exchanger. It’s name pretty much give this heat exchanger away, it consists of a shell, which is the pressure vessel, and contains a bundle of tubes inside the shell. Fluid A runs through the tubes, while Fluid B flows over the tubes (through the shell) and then the heat is transferred between the two fluids.
Koss Industrial, Inc. engineers and manufactures shell and tube heat exchangers, also know as u-tube heat exchangers. Pictured here is Koss’ version of a shell and tube heat exchanger, a u-tube heat exchanger model number HXU2.5-6X60.
Cheese Making Equipment
Koss Industrial, Inc. offers a large array of stainless steel cheese making equipment, both new and reconditioned. For example, Koss’ manufactures process cheese cookers, cheese grinders, HTST systems, curd pails, CIP systems, sanitary conveyors, clean catwalks, sanitary floor drains, and much more.
Rotary Drum Strainer
A Rotary Drum Strainer, also referred to as an RDS, is consists of a wedge wire screen, rotating against a plastic scraper, causing it to be a self-cleaning strainer, which in turn offers larger flow rates. When hooked up correctly, the RDS can remove some fat from the liquid.
Cheese Hoops
Block Cheese Hoops, also commonly referred to as cheese molds (moulds) or forms, are a necessity to the cheese making process.
Koss Industrial, Inc. manufactures these cheese hoops using the Wilson Hoop style design, which is suitable for virtually every specialty cheese. The rectangular-shaped cheese hoop boxes are made from 14 gauge stainless steel and the cheese hoop of the box, liner, cover, and (2) pins. Koss manufactures both the 20 pound and the 40 pound cheese moulds.
Brazed Plate Heat Exchangers
A brazed plate heat exchanger is basically your “smaller” versions of the plate heat exchanger. One of the main separating factors of plate heat exchangers is that the “larger” ones are separate by gaskets, whereas the “smaller” ones consist of brazed seals at the edges of the plates and the contact points of the plate are also brazed.
There are many advantages to the brazed plate heat exchangers, for example, the heat transfer efficiency makes the unit compact which is easily installed in locations where space is limited. Also, seeing as the design of the this type of plate heat exchangers does not consist of gaskets, it is suitable for applications where the temperature and/or pressure rating is high.
Plate Heat Exchanger

A plate heat exchanger is a specific type of heat exchanger that uses metal plates in order to transfer heat between two fluids. Plate heat exchangers are more beneficial than the regular U-tube or straight tube heat exchangers because the fluids are exposed to a larger surface area due to the fluids capability to spread out over the plates. Now, the transfer of heat can take place while simultaneously increasing the speed of the temperature change.
“Y” – Diverter 4″ Valve
The “Y”-Diverter Valve is responsible for directing the end product from application A to B (C, D, and so on). This valve can be easily dismantled for inspection after CIP, this valve can also be easily hand-washed. This Y-Body Divert Valve is frequently used for production of cheese curds of all types due to the open design there is a low fracture to the product.
Pressure Reducing Valve
Attention females! Have you ever taken your car in for service and been completely baffled by the automobile terminology that seems to come pouring out of the mechanics’ mouths? On top of making me feel ignorant, I always wonder if they can sense my weakness and choose to make up words to confuse me further, because they know I’ll never find out. Words like carburetor, axel, alternator, they are all Greek to me.
Last month I had to take my car in for its 30,000 mile service check up. After thumbing through the crinkled pages of out-dated People magazines for 45 minutes, my mechanic – Karl – approaches me to discuss what needs to be fixed. He suggested a pressure reducing valve be installed to lower the amount of wasted gasoline. I was momentarily speechless at the thought of Karl trying to save me money, and then he continued. He went further to say the piece costs $3,000 plus labor. Geez, I had been right all along.
Powder Funnel
Koss Industrial, Inc. engineers, fabricates, & manufactures sanitary stainless steel powder funnels.
Powder funnels are not only used to quickly mix powders, but can also be used for various tasks, such as rapidly reconstituting a liquid concentrate. Another feature of Koss’ powder funnels is the ability to CIP clean the unit making it even more cost effective.
These powder funnels are designed with a built-in powder inducer which minimizes the moisture crawling into the funnel, which in turn helps prevent clogging of the lower funnel area.
